INDIVIDUAL AWARD LISTINGS
Remember that usually only players that have played in 75% of the matches up to any week’s listing will be included. You must play more than 75% of the minor round matches to be eligible to win the award in your grade, as listed below:
‘A’ & ‘D’ Grade – 14 matches ‘B’ & ‘C’ Grade – 15 matches
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------REFEREE COURSE
If you wish to enrol to do the course, please contact me at red768@bigpond.com and I will pass your details to BASA President John Sallis, who organises the course. It would be extremely beneficial in the League if we have a few players in each grade that are qualified referees. If we receive a few more expressions of interest it would be good. We have five people myself included, who have indicated their interest in completing the course. I will advise when this starts when John sets it.

2008-2009 BILLIARDS LEAGUE
Following the successful inaugural JIM CHRISTIE MEMORIAL BILLIARDS CUP, the second instalment of the Billiards League will definitely go ahead in 2008-2009. The date parameters for this competition will be November 19, 2008 to March 1, 2009. A nomination form and all details will be released during the course of the snooker season. A Billiards League Singles competition will also be held during the course of the season. Please note the NEW night for the 2008-2009 League is WEDNESDAY.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IMPORTANT - 2008 TEAM FEES & NOMINATION DETAILS
This is really where people and teams that HAVE NOT fulfilled their obligations to complete BOTH of these tasks need to pay attention. Teams MUST pay their $100 team fee for the season and fill in a team nomination form, complete with player details, by NO LATER than the completion of the Cup competition in their respective grade. Failure to do so will result in your team being removed from the 2008 League. There will be absolutely no exceptions. It is YOUR responsibility to get both to me by this time – please DO NOT contact me on how to get it to me. YOU work it out for yourself or you will find your team scratched from the season.

DON’T FORGET TO BRUSH & BOARD TABLES PRIOR TO MATCHES TO AVOID FORFEITS - THIS WILL BE MONITORED CLOSELYREGULAR COLUMNS
IN THE LEAGUE THIS WEEK BACK THEN
5 years ago: Matchroom Muppets join Ultimate Gold on 4 wins from 4 matches with a last gasp 9-7 win over Royal Park Ultimate, the highlight of the match being a break of 114 from Phil Jones. This break was enough to win the highest break of the season. In ‘B’ Grade, Matchroom Mammoths lost for the first time in the opening 5 rounds. They are beaten by Hustlers Black, who remains unbeaten with 4 wins from 4 outings. Snookeroos are also beaten for the first time in 2003, by Ultimate White Knights, who now sit atop the table with 5 wins. New teams Yarders and Henley RSL are winless after each has been pitted against the four teams that eventually make the top four in the opening rounds. A new ‘C’ Grade is now mooted for starting in the 2004 season.
3 years ago: A sad week for snooker. In the League, Norwood Old Boys player, a fine gent by the name of Gerry Gardiner, passes away due to cancer. In World snooker, a black cloud for the sport as Paul Hunter is diagnosed with colon cancer; aged just 26. Trevor Smith, forgetting that the knockout Cup matches may require extra frames to decide the winner (if 8-all after normal play), allowed Peter Darby to leave early after he had played his match. Yes, his number did come out to play one of the extra frames, which his team had to forfeit. Luckily, Trevor won the last frame of the night to snatch victory and saved himself from extra embarrassment. Good thinking, Trevor.
1 year ago: Opening derby round wins to Ultimate White Knights, Royal Park Rebels and Matchroom Muppets have them up and running in ‘A’ Grade. Cup winning team Ultimate Gold had the bye. Home side BWMC Red crushed The Loose Cannons 15-1 to win the ‘D’ Grade Cup. Ultimate Assassins won the ‘B’ Grade Cup Final 10-8 over Matchroom United in extra frames and Matchroom ‘C’ took out the Cup in ‘C’ Grade.
TRIALS, TRIBULATIONS & TRIPPERS
*Spare a thought for poor Tony Sampson of Henley & Grange RSL. He went over to
*Although Scumly Vermin Bucketbags still has the record for number of nicknames by one person in the League, we now have a silver medallist that is rapidly gaining ground on him. The Great Man has recently had “Shoulda”; “Hyphen”; “Ted High” and my personal favourite “The Darby Lama” added to his expanding catalogue.
*When opening the side balcony door at Ultimate Holden Hill, it is usually a good idea to return the keys to staff before you leave. However, if you are stupid enough to leave and drive back home to Grange BEFORE you realise you still have them; it is a hell of a ride back just to return them. Don’t think anyone could be that dumb? Ask Scum!!!
